This guide explains eOPF report types: customer-generated vs custom reports. Self-Service reports, such as the Deleted Documents Report, can be run in eOPF by a user with the appropriate access level, e.g. HR Admin. Custom Reports, such as though identifying if a specific user viewed a file, must be requested via Help Desk ticket and generated by eOPF Operations using specialized data queries and advanced analytics. Custom reports fulfillments may be delayed due to other agency or government wide initiatives.
eOPF Reports by Type
This article discusses the two main report types in eOPF. The two reports are differentiated between reports that specific HR Professional roles can run themselves in the system vs reports that require action from the OPM eOPF Operations team.
eOPF reports fall into the following categories:
• Self-Service Reports (user-generated depending on role‑based access)
• Custom Reports (submitted to Help Desk and fulfilled by the Operations team)
Advisory: New self-service report development has been postponed indefinitely due to critical system maintenance and new federal initiatives. The same priorities also delay fulfillment of custom report requests. HR Professionals are advised to use current self-service options wherever possible.
Self-Service Reports
Self-Service Reports, such as the Deleted Documents Report, can be run in eOPF via the Reports screen. Accessing the Reports screen requires specific role-based access, e.g. HR Admin.
HR Professionals with access to the Employee Folder Search screen can create a report by exporting search results into a CSV file. This feature allows HR Professionals to generate a report identifying Active vs Inactive folders or a report that identifies specific documents in folders per POID and agency subelement code.
Custom Reports
Custom reports encompass requests that center on data elements not yet available to generate from the Reports screen, such as which user(s) uploaded documents to a specific folder, or more dynamic actions, such as which user(s) accessed a particular folder and when and viewed which documents. Some of these action-based reports (accessing, viewing, etc.) must be developed based on specialized data queries and advanced analytics.

Custom report requests should come from an Agency POC. If you are not an Agency POC, you must ask an Agency POC to authorize this report (Agency POC List). The report will not be submitted for processing until authorized by an eOPF Agency POC.
If you request a custom report, please include the following information:
-
Report Scope
- Individual Report: Include the individual’s full name and last 4 digits of SSN.
- Large-Scale Report: Provide a list of agency sub-elements and POIDs being requested.
- Audit Report: Identify a specific HR User or Employee that you want to request an audit on, based on valid suspicions of wrongdoing or a filed complaint.
- Important: Requests for “All [AGENCY] POIDs” cannot be processed. Please provide a list of specific POIDs and agency sub-elements/subelement codes.
-
Report Results
- Specify the data elements you would like included in the report (e.g., Name, SSN, Folder Status, Form Number, etc.).
- When at all possible, provide a time range for the report, e.g. we are requesting a report on all documents uploaded to an employee folder from 1/1/2026 to 6/1/2026.
-
Requested By Date
- Indicate the date by which the report must be completed.
Please note that not all custom report requests can be processed. Once your criteria are received, the eOPF Team will review the request to determine if the report can be provided at this time. While we strive to meet your requested completion date, this may not always be possible due to other system priorities.
