Overview
To ensure the eOPF document preview window functions correctly, browser settings must allow PDF files to open within the browser instead of downloading automatically. Incorrect configuration may prevent documents from displaying or interfering with eOPF functionality.
Suggested Browser Settings
Configure your browser to open PDF documents directly in the browser.
Follow the steps below to adjust the settings for Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or your Default PDF Application:
Microsoft Edge
1. Select Settings and more (…) in the upper-right corner of Microsoft Edge, then select Settings.
2. In Settings, select Privacy, search, and services, then select Site permissions.
3. Select All permissions.
4. Select PDF documents.
5. Turn off Always download PDF files.
Google Chrome
1. Select Customize and control Google Chrome menu in the upper right corner, then select Settings.
2. In Settings, select Privacy and Security, then Site settings.
3. Navigate to Additional Content Settings and select PDF documents.
3. Select Open PDFs in Chrome.
Default PDF Application
1. Click on the Start menu (Windows logo), then select Settings.
2. In Settings, select Apps, then Default apps.
3. Search for .PDF and set the default application to Adobe Acrobat.
These settings ensure that users will be able to view their documents within the document preview window and if downloaded to their computer.
IT Troubleshooting Guidance
If users experience issues with the document preview window or the download and print buttons, please use the following troubleshooting steps:
Test Download Behavior
- Temporarily enable "Download PDFs" in the browser
- The system functionality should fail; document preview window will fail to load document, and the document and print buttons will have no action
- Switch setting to Open PDFs in browser and test the behavior
Validate Default Application Settings
- Change the default .PDF application to preferred browser and test
- Switch back to Adobe Acrobat and compare results
Review Enterprise Policies (Chrome)
- Review Chrome enterprise policies at: chrome://policy/settings
- Confirm no policies restrict file downloads or in-browser PDF viewing
Check JavaScript Interference
- The eOPF Print and Download buttons rely on JavaScript to trigger the browser’s print functionality
- Review browser settings or extensions that may block JavaScript
If the agency is unable to match the specified setting requirements listed above, eOPF functionality may be impacted and could prevent users from utilizing certain features within eOPF. It is essential that all recommended configurations are implemented to ensure full access and proper operation of the system.
